First things first, graphics. The story is a typicle MGS story, characters a flushed out good enough, and even though it intrduces some characters new to the series, they seem like they've been there from the start.
Online play can be fun at times, with team based combat, deathmatch, and a capture the flag mode, with a Kojima twist, along with an RPG style character skill system where you assign certain skill to your custom character, from better aim with rifles, to running faster. Almost every previous character from the series makes their grand reapperance in the game, from Meryl and Rose, to Mei Ling and Raiden, every characters story is wrapped up in the game with non left out.
And what an era it is, it's only fair that an epic series such as MGS get a just as epic if not epic-er(is that a word). The gameplay in MGS4 is very fun and fluid, and controls are tight, it's not hard at all to do much in the game, from hand to hand combat to gun fights to sneaking around, plus the gamplay gets mixed up a bit with some vehicle sections, and the gameplay gets another point due to it's always present, and always great, MGS style boss battles.
In all, MGS is the reason to own a PS3, and should be in everyones library, and is a great way to end a legendary warrior's story ending, and MGS4 is much more than i expected.
Graphically, the game is beautiful to look at, everything from the enviroments to the character models to the tiniest details are great to look at, the differnt levels are all very different, each with it's own visual style and same goes for characters.
I'll definitely recommend this game. This is a game worth buying a PS3. so much detailed graphics, superb sound and top notch game play.
but I can honestly say I am not a fan anymore and care not to pick up the next metal gear. All in all i would say there is 2 and a half hours gameplay to the 12 hours of cutscenes. a blu ray movie.
I was at least expecting new game enviroments to explore. The irresponsible story telling of previous games has led to a very uninteresting conclusion. well, i have been a big metal gear fan playing all of them that are canon.
There really should be a DISCLAIMER on the box calling it what it really is. this is easily the worst in the series yet because there is no game here to play. what i played was utterly ridiculous.
a very brief point a to b mini game sometimes with a boss sometimes not with hours of cgi movies loaded with so many technobabbles you will lose interest in finishing the rest of it.
Surprising mini-games and plenty of humor and cameos for fans of the franchise. You will be blown away by the beauty and detail of the cut scenes, (of which there are multiple hours worth). MGS4 blew my mind. I am hard to impress but this game has the full package; incredible story, graphics, long game-play time, and more.
How. Towards the end of the game, I stopped caring how Snake did. There is too little game play and too much sitting around watching cut scenes. I really like the variety of game play that is available: from tactical, to fullon guns blazing, to sneak and hide. Also, this game takes itself way too seriously. Yes the graphics and sound are great.
My total playing time on hard difficulty for my first play through was 6.5hrs. One minute the guy cannot stand up, is coughing up his lung, and has his head bashed in and then the next he is able to beat some rested, nonsmoking, super criminal to death with his own hands. Yes the story is good. The drama is on latin soap opera steroids at times. I just wish there was more of that in the game, less uber-dramatic cut scenes, and some semblance that the developers didn't take this so seriously. But the game is so short.
Mind you, the cut scenes generally look great, but I can watch a movie instead for that sort of entertainment.
